How long have you been hairdressing?

I started my career at the age of sixteen and have been hairdressing for twenty-four years. I trained with Saks and went on to manage several city salon’s, all the time building a good clientele and improving my craft. After spending some time teaching hairdressing at York College, I opened my own salon which was fulfilling and challenging, and included the training of my own staff. After having my two children I decided to work with Jess part-time which is perfect for me.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

I love that the hairdressing industry is constantly evolving - there’s no way I’ll ever get bored! There is always a new colour or cut just around the corner! Making people happy is an obvious plus, but meeting such a wide and diverse range of clients is also great. I have many clients who I now consider friends as I might have known them for twenty plus years.

What are your interests outside of work?

Spending time with my boys, music, travel, friends, film, wine, food & chocolate.
